UCM's Secondary Education program, which includes Engineering and Technology Teacher Education, offers you an accredited and well-recognized degree. In fact, we are the only ETTE program in Missouri to receive International Technology and Engineering Educators Association recognition.

What you will study

In our newly renovated classrooms on our Warrensburg campus, you鈥檒l learn the latest in engineering and technology using the tools to teach in both a traditional 鈥榮hop鈥 and pre-engineering labs. Our program coursework focuses on:

Unique learning opportunities in engineering and technology

To earn your Engineering and Technology Teaching degree at the University of Central Missouri, you鈥檒l practice teaching both on and off campus. In our Active Learning Classroom, you鈥檒l use state-of-the-art equipment and technology that will prepare you to teach today鈥檚 students before beginning your practicum experience. Starting your sophomore year, you鈥檒l also apply your skills in the field, observing a high school CTE teacher and then leading instruction. In fact, you鈥檒l have extensive field experience prior to student teaching in your final semester. 

Join an engineering and technology teachers association

When you join an engineering and technology teachers association, you鈥檒l have opportunities to network, learn and have fun with future engineering technology teachers. Among your options are:

  • Technology Education Collegiate Association (TECA)
  • International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA)
  • Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education (MoACTE)
  • Technology Education Association of Missouri (TEAM)

Students completing Education degrees in Engineering Technology at UCM are also encouraged to get involved with local Technology Student Association chapters. This will help you understand the organization, so you can manage a future TSA or SkillsUSA chapter.

 

What can you do with an Engineering and Technology Teachers degree from UCM?

Engineering and Technology degrees for Secondary Education give UCM graduates choices. Not only will you be certified to work in Missouri high schools and middle schools, but you can also decide your classroom preference. This means taking the traditional route and creating with woods and metals or opting instead for a 鈥榗lean鈥 shop that focuses on topics such as design and drafting, engineering, robotics and aerospace.
 
No matter your route, UCM faculty who are engineering technology teachers will advise you as you consider your career path and will even work with you to transfer your teaching license to another state if desired.

Student Learning Outcomes

You will use the knowledge and skills obtained in the Secondary Education program to:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for entry level teaching in Engineering and Technology Teacher Education.
  • Demonstrate content knowledge in Engineering and Technology Teacher Education.
  • Demonstrate understanding and apply knowledge of technology, research, problem solving, creative and critical thinking, and communication skills within the teaching profession

 

Certification

Upon completion of student teaching, you will apply for DESE certification within the area of Engineering and Technology Teacher Education (Technology Education). This certification will allow you to teach the content learned through this degree in the 9-12 grade level in any district in Missouri. In addition, if you choose to student teach in a pre-engineering, nationally-accredited program, you may also be certified to teach in a middle or secondary education pre-engineering program as well.
