The Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ’s Hazardous Materials Removal Technician Certificate program prepares students to work as effective and safe hazardous materials (HAZMAT) removal workers. HAZMAT removal workers target and cleanup materials that are determined to be harmful to people and/or the environment such as asbestos, mold and other materials. Typical duties include following safety procedures before, during and after cleanup; complying with local, state and federal laws related to disposal; HAZMAT testing; building containment areas; remove or cleanup of HAZMAT areas; cleaning tools and equipment for reuse; the packaging, transportation and storing of hazardous materials; and record keeping of activities. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the United States annual median income for this occupation was $43,900 in 2019 with this occupation expected to grow by 8 percent through 2029 with 3,700 new jobs expected.

In addition, students will learn important workforce skills through CoreBuilders© Workplace Success Skills in active learning, human behavior, goals, problem solving and career management.
