Mia Kim made her professional debut with the Indianapolis Symphony at the age of twelve. A winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs Young Artist Auditions, Kim has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States including appearances at the Chautauqua Music Festival, the Rocky Ridge Music Festival, the Library of Congress Coolidge Recital Series, the Dag Hammerskjold Library at the United Nations, Steinway Hall (New York), the Summerfest Chamber Music Festival (Kansas City) and Missouri River Festival of the Arts (Boonville). Much in demand as a collaborator, Kim has performed on National Public Radio's "Performance Today" with violinist/conductor Scott Yoo; in recitals with violinists Chee-Yun, David Halen (concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony) and Eric Halen (co-concertmaster of the Houston Symphony); and with cellist Daniel Lee (principal cellist of the St. Louis Symphony), tubist Sam Pilafian (founding member of Empire Brass) and mezzo soprano Mary Ann Hart (head of the Voice/Opera Department of Indiana University Jacobs School of Music). She makes frequent appearances with members of the Kansas City Symphony in chamber music programs and often serves as keyboardist for that ensemble. International performances have taken place at the University of Macedonia (Greece) and the International Double Reed Society 2018 (Granada, Spain).
Dr. Kim received her D.M.A. from the Eastman School of Music, where she studied with and served as teaching assistant to Nelita True. She holds a B.M. and M.M. from Indiana University, where she was a student of Menahem Pressler and Leonard Hokanson. Dr. Kim makes frequent appearances as a clinician and adjudicator. She has presented masterclasses and workshops for the University of Macedonia, European Piano Teachers Association, the National Federation of Music Clubs, the Austin (Texas) Music Teachers Association, Kansas City Federated Music Teachers, St. Louis Piano Teachers Roundtable, numerous chapters of the Missouri Music Teachers Association, and at universities around the country, including Ithaca College, Texas Women鈥檚 University, Elmhurst College, and California State-Stanislaus. She serves as Professor of Piano and head of the Piano Area at UCM.
Deeply devoted to supporting the musical culture of her community, Kim served as director of the Warrensburg Area Youth Symphony from 1997-2002 and past state president of the Missouri Federation of Music Clubs. She is the founder and current president of the Warrensburg Friends of Music.
