WARRENSBURG, MO 鈥 The first of two Senior Shows will open April 12 in the University of Central Missouri Art Center Main Gallery. This show features the work of four UCM Art and Design majors who are preparing to graduate with degrees in majors such as Studio Art, Art Education and Illustration.

The four artists in this show cover a lot of material and conceptual ground. Jessica Barnard presents an exhibition of her ceramic artworks. Kirsten Gantt鈥檚 exhibition includes large-scale sculptural work. Phaedra Lauck鈥檚 display incorporates zines (short magazines, often DIY), digital prints, children鈥檚 book illustrations and more. Kaylee Russell鈥檚 painterly low relief and sculptural textile artworks are meditations on concepts of home.

The Gallery of Art and Design is on Instagram @ucmartgallery and on Facebook as UCM Gallery of Art and Design. Senior Shows/Studio Art and Art Education will be on view through April 21. The public is invited to attend the reception from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15. All events are free and open to the public.
The second and final Senior Show of Spring 2023 immediately follows the first. This show features 30 senior UCM Art and Design students who will graduate with degrees in the fields of Graphic Design, Illustration, and Interior Design. This show is huge in size and scope, and there is so much art, it will fill up the gallery.

Commenting on this exhibit, Gallery Director, Jamie Platt noted, 鈥淰isitors to the show will get a glimpse of the near future. The works in the show include examples of design and illustration from the newly minted professionals soon to be giving shape to the online and physical spaces we inhabit, the products we use and consume, and the media that informs and entertains us.鈥

The Senior Show/Design and Illustration will be on view through May 6. The reception for this event takes place from noon to 2 p.m. May 6. All events are free and open to the public.

The Galleries at UCM are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Thursdays, the galleries are open until 8 p.m. The galleries are also open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
