WARRENSBURG, MO – Dr. Alan Wenger, ŷƵ professor of trumpet,
will present a faculty recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the First United Methodist
Church in Warrensburg. The program, titled “Portraits and Prose: Musical Depictions
for Trumpet and Organ,” will feature works for trumpet and organ that depict events,
visual art, or literature. Dr. Wenger will be joined by guest organist Dr. Donna Hetrick
and UCM Professor of Voice Dr. Jacob Sentgeorge. Admission is free.
The program will include Henri Tomasi’s “Semaine Sainte a Cuzco (Holy Week at Cuzco),”
Anthony Plog’s “Four Themes on Paintings of Edward Munch,” Vincent Persichetti’s “The
Hollow Men,” and Petr Eben’s “Okna: Windows after Marc Chagall.” The performance will
include visual representations and a reading of the poem by T.S. Eliot on which Persichetti’s
composition is based.
Wenger is Professor of Trumpet at UCM, where he has been a member of the faculty since
2003. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, he has served as Principal Solo Cornet of the
internationally acclaimed and award winning Fountain City Brass Band in Kansas City,
and performed with them as both member and soloist in numerous concerts across the
United States and in the United Kingdom.
Hetrick is Director of Music at Rolling Hills Church in Overland Park, Kansas. She
was previously Director of Music and Organist at Grace Presbyterian Church in Wichita,
Kansas, and has accompanied many community groups including the Wichita Chamber Chorale,
Wichita Choral Society, Newton Chorale, Central Kansas Master Chorale, and Bethel
Masterworks Concerts.
