UCM Departments of Theatre and Dance, Music Present 'Footloose'

By Mike Greife, September 25, 2017

WARRENSBURG, MO - The 欧美视频 Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music present the musical production Footloose Oct. 4-8 in the James L. Highlander Theatre. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 4-7 and 2 p.m. Oct. 8. Children under the age of five will not be admitted.

Taking place in the fictional Midwest town of Bomont and inspired by real events that happened in Elmore City, Okla., Footloose incorporates songs from the 1984 blockbuster hit film and also features new music created for the Broadway production that opened in October of 1998.

The story follows Ren McCormack and his mother Ethel, new transplants to Bomont from Chicago. Ren鈥檚 father has recently deserted the family and Ethel has no choice but to move to the small town and receive help from her sister and brother-in-law. Ren discovers that the town has been living under a five-year ordinance that makes public dancing illegal. Ren sets out to change the law and win the hearts of his new high school peers. Filled with likeable characters, memorable music, wonderful dance numbers and emotional heart, Footloose is sure to be an enjoyable evening for the whole family.

Footloose is directed by John Wilson, professor of theatre and department chair, with musical direction is provided by Kristee Haney assistant professor of music. Senior music major Andrew Hamilton serves as the conducting band director, and Ashley Miller-Scully is the choreographer.

Season tickets are available now and individual tickets to Footloose can be purchased starting Wednesday, September 27th, by stopping by the Theatre Box Office between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., by phone at 660-543-8811, or online at www.ucmo.edu/theatretickets.
