WARRENSBURG, MO – Members of the ŷƵ community and the
general public are invited to attend the live virtual Greer Oppenheimer general education
guest lecture, “Winning the Vote: World War I and the American Suffrage Movement,”
at 6 p.m. April 6. Lynn Dumenil, Ph.D., Robert Glass Cleland Professor Emerita of
American History at Occidental College in Los Angeles and Organization of American
Historians Distinguished Lecturer, will make the presentation, which includes two
options for attending. Her lecture can be viewed via Zoom as well as from the Union
Auditorium, where limited ticketed seating will be available from 5:15 to 5:45 p.m.
on a first-come first-served basis.
Dumenil is an author and lecturer who specializes in U.S. cultural and social history
since the Civil War, and her published works have included insight into the kinds
of experiences and challenges women have faced throughout history. Her book projects
have included “The Second Line of Defense: American Women and World War I,” published
in 2017; “The Modern Temper: American Culture and Society in the 1920s,” 1995; and
“Freemasonry and American Culture, 1880-1930,” 1984. She is also the co-author of
the book, “Through Women’s Eyes: An American History,” 20018, and author of “American
Working Women in World War II: A Brief History with Documents,” 2019.
Individuals who want to attend the lecture virtually through Zoom . Those planning to attend the virtual presentation at the Union Auditorium should
arrive at the specified time for seating and expect to engage in social distancing
and other practices such as wearing face coverings/mask to promote a safe environment.
