STUDENT SUCCESS TIPS

To help them alleviate stress, remind your student to:

  • Eat nutritious meals and snacks.
  • Exercise at the Rec or other locations.
  • Take breaks and deep breaths.
  • Avoid overconsumption of stimulants.
  • Get plenty of sleep. 

FAMILY ACADEMIC SUPPORT TEAM 

UCM's Family Academic Support Team (FAST) - Partnering with families to form an alliance focused on their student鈥檚 success.

FAST provides a comprehensive support system for families, empowering them to become more effective partners who are actively engaged in their student鈥檚 academic success at UCM.

As your questions emerge, whether from your UCM student or from your own curiosity, send your question(s) to the FAST Team: FAST@ucmo.edu. The FAST team administrator will quickly act to get the right FAST Team members involved so you can get your answers . . .FAST!

YOUR STUDENT'S PSYCHOLOGICAL WELLNESS AND THE COUNSELING CENTER ASK-LISTEN-REFER

The UCM Counseling Center can provide assistance on how to help a person who may be suicidal. The suicide prevention training program 鈥淎sk-Listen-Refer鈥 can be found at: . This program is designed to help faculty, staff, parents, and students:

Resources available include: National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273-TALK and the UCM Counseling Center at 660-543-4060 or www.ucmo.edu/cc/.

These free, informal, interactive workshops presented by the UCM Counseling Center and the Student Recreation and Wellness Center will help your student strengthen their skills for managing life's challenges.

COURSE SCHEDULE PLANNING MADE EASY!

My schedule is available to students in  .  This platform will provide all possible combinations of schedules based on the specific courses and break times (work, athletic practice, etc.) chosen. Use of MySchedule is optional. Spread the word to your students about this great planning tool! UCM OFFERS SEVERAL RESOURCES TO ASSIST STUDENTS WITH IMPROVING THEIR GRADES:

  • Schedule a meeting with the instructor(s): This is a great way to ask for additional explanation or help with the course materials.
  • Schedule a meeting with their Success Advisor and/or Success Coach: he/she can help create a specific plan to get your student back on track. To do so, please have them visit Success Advising Center or call us at 660-543-4721 to schedule an appointment.
  • Visit Learning Commons to view services.  Contact learningcommons@ucmo.edu or (660)-543-8972. 

 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS 

If you have questions or need additional clarification about any aspect of applying for financial aid, contact the UCM Office of Student Financial Services by telephone (660-543-8266) or in person (1100 Ward Edwards Bldg.).

STRESS AND ANXIETY

Anxiety is a normal response to stressful situations. A certain amount of anxiety is essential for performing at our best. It is only when we have too much anxiety that it interferes with functioning.  The anxiety expresses itself through emotions, physical symptoms, thoughts, and behaviors. If your student is experiencing levels of anxiety that is causing significant distress or is interfering with functioning, encourage your student to seek help from the Counseling Center.
