WARRENSBURG, MO 鈥 The 欧美视频 Career Services Center, which plans and organizes special events designed to connect students with employers,
has announced its fall 2019 schedule. It includes changes in one of the major events,
the (B.I.G.) Career Expo, to better serve both students and employers.
This fall, the (B.I.G.) Career Expo is being divided into smaller more tailored events
which Career Services staff believe will create a 鈥渨in-win situation鈥 for students
and employers. These separate events are now scheduled as follows:
- Professional Networking and Career Day 鈥 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, Sandra Temple
Elliott Ballroom of the UCM Elliott Student Union. This event is sponsored by the
Center for Multiculturalism and Inclusivity.
- Safety, Technology and Construction Career Expo 鈥 1-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30 in the
Multipurpose Building arena.
- Business, Communications and Government Career Expo 鈥 1-4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9 in
the UCM Multipurpose Building arena.
Joni Porter, employer relations representative at the Career Services Center, said
career events are an ideal time for students to meet professionals in their particular
field or major, ask questions, distribute resumes and explore a multitude of job opportunities.
All students are encouraged to attend, regardless of class status.
She pointed out underclassmen will benefit from these events because they offer an
outlook on the job market. Juniors, seniors, and anyone else who is interested in
pursuing employment, either full-time or through an internship, should bring several
copies of their resume. Graduate and professional schools also will be in attendance
to answer questions about their programs and the application processes. Students are
encouraged to wear professional attire.
On the days following the Safety, Technology and Construction Expo and the Business
Communications and Government Career Expo, Career Services will host on-campus interviews.
In order for a student to participate in an on-campus interview, they must meet with
an employer at the expo and follow that employer鈥檚 application/interview process.
All on-campus interviews will be organized by the Career Services Center and interviews
will be conducted in the Ward Edwards Building.
Additional Career Services events will take place September through November as follows:
- Etiquette Dinner 鈥 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, in the ballroom of the Elliott
Student Union
- Education Interview Day 鈥 noon to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 Career Services Center,
Ward Edwards 1200
- Employer Mock Interview Week - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 4-9, also at the Career
Services Center.
Handshake is a useful tool that gives students an opportunity to find out which employers
will be in attendance at Expo events. Students also can find out where the employer
will be located and what majors they will be recruiting. To access Handshake, go to
